Trucks Gone Wild at Kirby’s Kompound | upstate NY, June 23- Join Kirby’s Konpound in upstate NY as they welcome trucks gone wild for their June 23, muddy fun and Monster Mega Trucks. The Kompound offers hundreds of acres of off road entertainment. The terrain at Kirby’s Kompound offers something for beginners and advanced drivers alike. The park welcomes trucks and off road rigs of any size with tires of any size, from V tread to tractor tires, boggers all the way to even getting your street truck a little muddy.

South

Red Neck Yacht Club | south east FL, July 4th- The redneck yacht club was recently featured on outdoor TV’s ‘MudSlingers’. The club was originally built on an old potato farm in southeast Florida and opened in 2008. Even though it is relatively young, they have had no problem drawing in large crowds for their summer time events. The two biggest being Memorial Day weekend and the 4^th of July weekend.

The weekend offers multiple events and amenities. They have an onsite lake and beach, truck wash, truck pulls, live concerts at night, mud bogs, trail riding, plenty of games and adult fun.

Wheel Questions you should know the answer to before purchase

Q1: How do I measure the width of a wheel?

A1: Measure the distance from the inside of one bead to the inside of the other bead.

Q2: What is wheel backspace?

A2: Backspace is the distance from the back edge of the rim to the mounting surface on the hub.

Q3: What is wheel offset?

A3: Offset is the distance from the wheel centerline to the mounting surface. Positive offset is when the mounting surface is outside the centerline. Negative offset is when the mounting surface is inside the center line.

Chrysler to build new jeep factory

Yesterday Chrysler announced its plan to build a new Jeep factory in St. Petersburg Russia. This is a huge step for the automaker that almost went bankrupt three years ago. Thanks to the new majority owner (Fiat), Chrysler has been pulled out of the ditch it was in, and put back on its pedestal. Fiat will finance the new $1.1 billion facility which will produce 120,000 jeeps per year.

The Automaker plans to revitalize Jeeps current look and feel with 6 new models tailored to different regions of the world. One model is said to be built on a larger fiat chassis, keeping the traditional four wheel drive look and feel while adding in fuel efficiency. The overall size will bit a tad bigger than a mini cooper… that will be interesting to see. Another model will feature an extended version of the grand Cherokee and will seat 7 passengers. These newer models will cater to countries such as China, India and Brazil where current tariffs on Jeeps (average $22,000 more in most countries) make them priced as a luxury vehicle instead of the average Americans car that it is. These newer models will be quit intriguing to see, a slightly smaller jeep with increased gas mileage could potentially sell very well in America as well.

CEO Sergio Marchionne has expressed that he will keep the iconic look and feel of Jeep brands while adding fresh designs and a sleeker more progressive look. He also plans to keep the current jeep factories in America building towards American jeeps. So no need to worry Jeep fans and fanatics, the beloved wrangler will keep true to its colors.  Raising the Jeep brand internationally will only improve the brand sales and image in America. All together the company is projecting to hit 800,000 jeeps sold annually by 2014.

For those of you who have owned a diesel for any amount of time, you know that they tend to take a bit more lovin then a gas powered truck. So we have come up with a first time diesel truck owner, owners guide.

When it’s cold out

1. Let the engine heat up for about 5-10 minutes before driving to decrease the oil density.
2. If your Diesel has a Block heater, use it.
3. Before winter check the heating plugs and relay. Or for those not so mechanically inclined, just take it to a seasoned diesel mechanic for a thorough inspection of the engine and its components.
4. Make sure to turn all off all lights in order for battery to maintain full charge. Cold weather decreases battery output.

All the time

5.  Change the oil every 3,000 miles. Replace the spark plugs, fuel injectors and timing belts every 60,000 miles.

-without appropriate maintenance of injectors, cylinder temperatures become disturbed, oil in the crank case becomes diluted and engine combustion will become unproductive.

6.  NEVER RUN OUT OF FUEL,  some diesels don’t have a fuel pump. Therefore if you run out of gas, you have to figure out a way to get fuel back into the pipes which usually includes manually priming the fuel pump.

7.  Use Quality engine oil to keep from engine gelling and change coolant every two years.

8.  Use Quality Fuel; diesel fuel is the coolant and lubricant for the fuel pump, injectors and spray tip.

9.   Run truck at low revs, this saves fuel and the truck will drive better.

The recall is based on corrosion build up in a rear lower control arm potentially causing it to fracture. They believe the corrosion is caused by road salt build up in states that tend to use road salt the most often. Currently there are no injuries do to the corrosion build up in the control arm. Although the recall was deemed based on 9 complaints in which excessive corrosion caused a fracture.

Now that you have found some easy ways to save money consistently on gas, here are our top do it yourself tricks and tips.

Window up or Down?- It is the most fuel efficient to have your windows rolled down until you hit about 50mph. above 50mph, the drag produced from your down window is less fuel efficient then a low A/C setting.

Don’t pump the A/C- the Air conditioning unit in a car uses a compressor driven by an engines drive belt. The higher you set the A/C the more the engine and compressor have to work.

Keep those tires properly inflated- When your tire is not correctly inflated, it produces drag for your vehicle and lowers gas mileage.

Use the Cruise control- Using your truck’s cruise control not only can save you from saying “I’m sorry officer I wasn’t paying attention to the increase in pressure put on my trigger foot.” As well as the money you’re going to have to spend on that ordeal. But it will save you from the fluctuations in up and down acceleration.

Turn your truck off when possible- Don’t sit in long lines at drive through windows or banks, turn off your truck and walk inside. Idling for longer than 5 minutes is less efficient then turning your truck off on and off.

Maintain efficient aerodynamics and weight- Don’t drive around with foreign objects like a roof rack on when you don’t need it. Make sure to take all that extra stuff you aren’t going to use out of your bed. We all do it, and it’s a great way to lose money at the pump. Spend that extra couple minutes taking the unnecessary weight and less aerodynamic items out of your truck bed.

JAC is reported to be launching the 4R3 at the Beijing auto show in April. Early spy photos show that the trucks uncanny resemblance of the F-150. The Front End looks almost identical, from the L shaped headlights all the way to the oval blue emblem. The dip on the side of the hood and the mesh grill round off the front end look of the ford imitator.

Why did they not meet their projections? GM was on track to meet its projections until the fourth quarter in which European and South American markets took a dive. Although with the recession in Europe one would understand why automobile sales are not on the up and up. The good news for all the folks in North America is; GM did $1.5 billion in sales during the fourth Quarter. This could be a slight sign that the economy is starting to rebound in the U.S.

Dakar – Was originally ran in Europe, from Paris France to Dakar Senegal. After Some course changes and political intervention, the race is now run in South America through Chile, Argentina and Peru. Moving the race to South America, brought more International interest then ever before and with more interests comes increased competition. The course is currently 9,000 km (5,592 mi) 13 stages and 16 days long. There is a wide variety of terrain covered in this race making it truly different from any other of its kind. Drivers will go through desert, dunes, beaches, open country, river beds and canyons. They will be tested on both dry and wet terrain and will truly need to be a master of every terrain in order to complete this intense competition in one piece.

Baja 1,000- For anyone in North America looking to really test yourself, this is the ultimate race for you. This event started in 1967 and was the first event thrown by the National off-road racing association, originally called the Mexican 1,000. The adventure starts at one end of the Baja peninsula and by the time the driver finishes hopefully they will be on the other side. Drivers generally finish in 40 hours, although the record is set at 16 hours putting the driver at an average speed of 62.3 mph. Drivers not only have to be conscious of the rugged terrain the Baja Peninsula has to offer, they have to be aware of the cows, goats, bulls and calf’s who roam freely along the course. Unlike the Dakar, riders do not get the luxury of stopping when they complete a stage. Instead, the team merely switches to a new set of drivers about every 6-8 hours. Drivers have been known to go as far as using catheters to shave even a couple minutes off their trip.

Taupo 1,000- Before Dakar made it to Southern America, the Taupo 1,000 was the longest off road race in the southern hemisphere. All though it is also set to be 1000 km it differs from the Baja 1000 as it is one 35 mile course that drivers make 9 laps around in each of the two days. The drivers in the Taupo will also have the luxury of a nights sleep before taking on the second leg of the race on day two. This intense 35 mile track takes place primarily in the forest on the northern island of New Zealand. The best part about this race is that it only takes place once every two years (last was held in 2011), building up the anticipation that much more for drivers.
